YONTUS has facilities to identify SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.The major technology for detection of SARS-CoV-2 is the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) The COVID-19 RT-PCR Test is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in upper and lower respiratory specimens (nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swabs) which is major effected area. The steps/procedure to detect SARS-CoV-2 follows in our lab-

  1. Sample collection:  we have qualified trained Lab Technicians and phlebotomist for safe and hygienic sample collection by following all bio safety precautions and using personal protective kit. The sample will be collected in a viral transport medium (VTM) to maintain the stability of the sample and get transported in a cold chain.
  2. Auto-Extraction: When technician receives the sample, immediately sample is entered in auto extractor.
  3. RT- PCR:After Extraction the sample is amplified and then placed in an RT–PCR machine. The machine cycles through temperatures that heat and cools the mixture to trigger specific chemical reactions that create new, identical copies of the target sections of viral DNA. The computer tracks the amount of fluorescence in the sample after each cycle. It continues to be the most accurate method available for the detection of the COVID-19 virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that transmission of corona virus is not likely to occur from handling or consuming food. Practically, the risk will be much lower from surfaces than from a direct respiratory droplet traveling through the air from an infected person. The virus can survive on different surfaces for up to 9 days under specific conditions such as temperature and humidity. So, that SARS-CoV-2 transmission can occur when a healthy person touches contaminated food or food contact surfaces (including packaging materials), and then touches their mouth, nose, or eyes. Furthermore, at YONTUS, we not only deal with molecular biology of human samples but also of environmental aspect.

  • YONTUS uses advanced techniques to detect SARS-COV-2 from food packaging and environmental monitoring. Real-Time PCR Systems are recommended to use not only for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in testing of food packaging and environmental monitoring, but also for testing for other targets important to food safety and environmental testing.
  • YONTUS provide tests for the imported & exported foods to detect virus as many of the workers in the market are being affected due to SARS-COV-2.

PCR and Data Analysis

  • Our lab Technicians use sterile swabs to collect the samples from both food contact surfaces (e.g., slicers, mixers, utensils or conveyors) and non-food contact surfaces (e.g., floors, drains, carts or equipment housing) and transported it to the VTM’s. After receiving the sample by the lab technician it undergoes extraction process. After completion of Auto-Extraction processthe sample undergo amplification and then it is placed in PCR Machine for further analysis to identify and detect SARS-CoV-2.
